Szechuan pepper (Zanthoxylum simulans & Z. Armatum)
(Zanthoxylum armatum) commonly called Winged Prickly Ash is close relative of Z. bungeanum, Z. foliolosum, Z. simulans, and Z. piperitum.
- Szechuan ppeppercorn tree is a fragrant shrub with prickly thorns.
- Winged spiny compound leaves. Small fruits in cluster with bumpy oil glance.
- It has a prominent citrusy aroma and taste like that of a lime. Has a weirdly tingling and mouth numbing sensation. Stems and leaves are with prickly thorns.
- This winged prickly ash shrubs can grow up to 17ft tall.
- Cool hardy to -10°F once plant is established.
- Sow seeds in early spring or fall or 40-50°F.
- Full sun or partially shade.
- Any soil but well drain soil. Chalk, Sandy, or Clay. Water regularly and abundantly.
