កំពីងពួយ (Ludwigia peploides)

(Ludwigia peploides) called  Floating Primrose-willow, Creeping Water Primrose 'yellow'. (Ludwigia adscendens), white Water primrose,  or កំពីងពួយ in Khmer. Tender parts is eaten raw or cooked.  A wild aquatic leafy greens that grow abundantly in rural countryside of Cambodia. Yellow Uruguay Water Primrose (Ludwigia peploides / hexapetala). ដំឡូងជ្វា, Molokai/Stokes Purple Sweet Potatoes

ដំឡូងជ្វា ពណ៌ស្វាយ / Molokai is Asian variety of purple sweet potatoes well known and patented in 2006 as Stokes Purple. It is named after the county of North Carolina that it was first grown in the USA. A look at the colors of cooked and uncooked flesh and textures.  Purple sweet potatoes, grown for leafy greens while awaits for tubers to mature. Unlike the common varieties being sold in big box grocery stores,  these are only sold at Asian and specialty markets. Textures is a bit more dense, less moisture content, and starchy sticky.  Cooked and uncooked side by side.  Here's a side by side of two different types. Stokes left, Charleston Right.

(Canavalia gladiata) Sword beans

(Canavalia ensiformis), also known as Jack bean. (Canavalia gladiata), also known as the Sword bean, or Scimitar bean, is a domesticated plant species in the legume family of Fabaceae. (Canavalia gladiata) known as Sword Bean - Shironata Mame. It is cold-hardy in my USDA zone 9a. The crown survived winter in zone 9a.  Grow multiple shoots in a warm spring temperatures  °F .  Flowers and fruits in September/October.  Plant Specifics Size: Unknown Life Span: Long-lived perennial Form: Flower in cluster Color: Lavender/pink Fruit Color: Green, tan  Pod size: -9-14" L,  1" W Seed: Pink with black scar, 3/4 of the length of seed.   Phenology: Evergreen in warm climate. Blooms and fruits all year in warm climate. Noted for: Showy flowers  

Madeira Vine (Anredera cordifolia)

(Anredera cordifolia), t he Madeira Vine, not only that it's an excellent live awning that provide cool shade in an extremely hot summer days, but also an abundant food source. Tender leaves,  and young shoots is harvested and  eaten raw or cooked. In soups, salad, or a quick blanched in stir fried.  Madeira vine is an evergreen perennial in it native tropical environment.  It's tender perennial in USDA zone 9a. It is frost sensitive and to be sheltered in the cold winter months.  Tuberous specimens can be uprooted and winterized for transplant or regrow in the warm season.  Xyab txhim hmab

(Dicliptera tinctoria), Magenta, "Cây lá cẩm"

(Dicliptera tinctoria) locally know as Cây lá cẩm, Magenta.  Extracts of Cẩm leaves contain a large amount of pelargonidin, zizilan, carotenoids, B-sitosterol. These compounds are asserted to cure the tuberculosis, eliminates phlegm, acute bronchitis, antitoxic, anti-inflammatory, windpipe infection, hepatitis and diabetes. Folklore medicinal use: The plant is said to have been used in traditional Chinese medicine. The leaves have been used in water extract decoctions for the treatment of cough, dysentery, diarrhoea, and bronchitis. For culinary purpose, it's mainly used for its magenta pigment for food coloring. I use it to color sweet rice and desserts.  An evergreen perennial in tropical Asia region. A tender perennial in USDA zone 9a. It's frost sensitive and needs overhead protection in the winter months.
