USually about a month or so before the Chinese New Year, you will be able to catch a glimpse of these “Arrowhead(cigu) –  钱菇 ” at most of the vegetable vendors in the wet market. This bulb-like corms of the arrowhead is sold roughly about S$3.00 per kg depending on individual stalls. Ngaku or arrowhead is delicacy during Chinese New Year in cooking.. Called Chi Gu (“benevolent mushroom") in Chinese, and Arrowhead (Sagittaria sagittifolia) in English,  tubers are grown in marshlands and shallow ponds. (Cissus quadrangularis) commonly called Veldt grape, Vadamant creeper, Cucumber Cactus, or ប្រទាលឆ្អឹងពស់៖ in Khmer. 

(Dioscorea purpurea/alata) commonly called ដំឡូងឈាមមាន់,  Purple Yam, Ube. The purple flesh is what lens it its name, Ube. Ube is a Filipino word for purple. For hundreds of years these yam are foraged for food from the wild in Cambodia. In the old world Khmer Dioscorea sp are not commonly domesticated as a mainstream food crop. 

 ដំឡូងជ្វា  Okinawa purple sweet potatoes.  White skin, mildly sweet.   Dry, dense and sticky.  Maintain firmness even cooked.  White and lilac spects and wall, turns blue-purple when cooked

ដំឡូងជ្វា ពណ៌ស្វាយ / Purple Sweet Potatoes is one of the root crop that has a versatile role in Asian kitchen.  Taste and texture are like that of a cassava. Cooked and uncooked colors of the inner core and the outer layer.  Side by side look at the color differences of the two types of Purple Sweet potatoes.  Charleston is on the far right.

(Ludwigia peploides) called  Floating Primrose-willow, Creeping Water Primrose 'yellow'. (Ludwigia adscendens), white Water primrose,  or កំពីងពួយ in Khmer. ដំឡូងជ្វា ពណ៌ស្វាយ / Molokai is Asian variety of purple sweet potatoes well known and patented in 2006 as Stokes Purple. It is named after the county of North Carolina that it was first grown in the USA. A look at the colors of cooked and uncooked flesh and textures.  Purple sweet potatoes, grown for leafy greens while awaits for tubers to mature. Unlike the common varieties being sold in big box grocery stores,  these are only sold at Asian and specialty markets.
