Wapato plant (Sagittaria latifolia)

USually about a month or so before the Chinese New Year, you will be able to catch a glimpse of these “Arrowhead(cigu) –  钱菇 ” at most of the vegetable vendors in the wet market. This bulb-like corms of the arrowhead is sold roughly about S$3.00 per kg depending on individual stalls. Ngaku or arrowhead is delicacy during Chinese New Year in cooking.. Called Chi Gu (“benevolent mushroom") in Chinese, and Arrowhead (Sagittaria sagittifolia) in English,  tubers are grown in marshlands and shallow ponds. Arrowhead or Duck Potato (Sagittaria latifolia).... 10°F

ដំឡូងឈាមមាន់, purple ube(Dioscorea purpurea/alata)

(Dioscorea purpurea/alata) commonly called ដំឡូងឈាមមាន់,  Purple Yam, Ube. The purple flesh is what lens it its name, Ube. Ube is a Filipino word for purple. For hundreds of years these yam are foraged for food from the wild in Cambodia. In the old world Khmer Dioscorea sp are not commonly domesticated as a mainstream food crop.
